This video is to bring you a closer look at the Pemko 215APK. This is a mill finish aluminum door shoe with an integrated rain drip or drip cap as you can see here. Very typical and common sort of door bottom for a number of reasons. First of all, the 215 is the profile of this with a drip cap is common. An insert, a seal material, down here at the bottom is common. The A finish for milled aluminum is common. Also available in several different anodized finishes, lets take a look. The 215 you are going to be able to get in a satin nickel, gold, a painted white, dark bronze finish, a bright dipped gold which is gold but much more metallic or shiny looking and of course the mill finish seen here. The insert is the PK which is a high performance sort of seal and would be superior to the other option which would be vinyl. Vinyl is not very good at all with extreme temperatures and exposures to sunlight. If economy is the most important thing vinyl and if you have a large volume, vinyl might be what you wanted, but if you were putting this in and wanted the best seal that you can get then it would be the PK from Pemko. There is an image below this video showing the important dimensional properties, lets go over it now. You can see from that image a couple of important items come to light immediately. First of all, this is for an 1-3/8″ door. It is crucial to know that the 215 is specifically intended for 1-3/8″ doors. You have a 1-5/16″ overall height on the face to the bottom of the drip. The most crucial dimension is this 1/2″ dimension from where the door will reside to the bottom of the seal. You have to know what your undercut is to determine if this is going to work. 7/16″ maybe through 9/16″ you are going to want to be right in that range in order to make this work for you. That return over here is 5/8″ or maybe a little less important of an option. This rain drip has a projection of about 9/16″ or in this case closer to 7/16″. That is crucial. Anyone who has installed a piece of weatherstripping with a drip cap whether it be on the door sweep or door bottom or up at the top of the frame at the header will attest to how effective they are at helping drive water away from that crucial area under the door. If this is an outswing door, that is great. No problem at all being able to utilize that drip cap effectively. If it is an inswing door, you will have to notch this around your stop; it is just aluminum and is not difficult really at all to trim. Available in not only those other finishes but different lengths as well. If you have need for a custom length, by all means let us know by ordering the next longest piece or pieces and indicate in the comment field what length you would like for us o cut the material back to. The reasoning is this, this is a 3′ piece. If you had to cut that back to say 32″, you would eliminate that slotted hole that is there and the next one is all of the way over here. It is very handy to have that slotted hole, especially on the door bottom because what you are doing is helping to offset a sill that is not level or a door that is not plumb or jambs that are kicked in or out or twisted, also helps combat a miss drilled hole when you are pre-drilling holes for screws and screws are included in a complementary finish. The drill bit has a tendency to walk a little bit before it pierces in to the steel, wood, aluminum, fiberglass, stainless bronze, or whatever you are drilling into if you have not used a center punch. That slotted hole will help compensate for all of those conditions very well. If you ordered a custom length, we would not only locate that first slotted hole at the proper distance from the edge, but of course the proper center to center as well. The name Pemko is synonymous with all things weatherstripping related, not only door bottoms like this, but thresholds, perimeter gasketing, material made of aluminum like the 215 is, stainless steel, architectural bronze as well. There is a link below this video to the manufacturer’s page where you can pull up the full line catalog and review all things Pemko weatherstripping related.
